The Vineyard

Across a broken bridge west of your house is the Vineyard. Larry spots it the first time you survey your garden: “Looks like they grew grapes there. Probably for wine.” On the surface you grow grapes and hops on trellises and keep bees. Below is a cellar, which matters more than the vineyard: it’s the only place any drink in the game can be brewed or pressed.

Fixing the bridge

Use a hammer with 4 Wooden Planks, 1 Polished Bronze and 4 Pieces of stone, at Building mastery 2. No technology is required for the repair itself, though you do need Bronze Polishing to make the Polished Bronze.

On the surface

Technology Structure Purpose
Vineyard Vine Trellis, 5 Sticks and 3 Peat Grapes and Hops, the only crops a trellis accepts
Beekeeping Beehive Honey
Zombie Vineyard Gardener Stand plus the Grapes and Hops tablets A zombie sows and harvests the trellises
Zombie Vineyard Porter Station A zombie ferries grapes, hops and honey down to the cellar
Vineyard Improvement Vineyard Upgrade Restores the vineyard and lifts trellis growing skill from 6 to 11

Trellis growth, and why the upgrade’s advertised speed boost has no effect, are covered on Farming.

The cellar

Stairs lead down from the vineyard, and the four drink stations can be built nowhere else:

Technology Station Output
Cold Pressing Vine Press Apple, berry, blueberry and grape juice, each from 6 fruit plus an empty bottle
Cider Brewery Fermentation Barrel Cider, from juice
Brewing or Mead Making Brewing Stand Beer from 5 hops, Mead from 5 honey, plus Soldier’s ale
Winemaking Wine Barrel Wine from 4 grape juice, matching the grapes’ quality

The cellar connects to the underground as well. Two blockages lead through to the Factory: clearing the one beside the factory hall counts as discovering it, and clearing both unlocks a Porter Station that moves the cellar’s beer and wine onto the factory’s drinks pallet.

Notes

  • Without the cellar, you can’t make drinks. Beer, mead, cider, juice and wine have no recipe anywhere else. Some can be bought: beer from Januarius, and beer, cider, mead and wine from the town Brewery and Tavern stalls once they exist. Nobody sells juice.
  • Grape quality carries through to wine. ★3 grapes make ★3 juice and ★3 wine, which is what the Royal Foundry monks want.
