The Quarry

Right at the southern edge of your house’s yard, where the forest starts, is the Quarry. Its rock face and marble face are inexhaustible, each restored the instant you break it, which ends Stone being a scarce resource. The caved-in entrance at the back is the Old Mine’s surface access, and the Quarry’s build desk is where zombie quarrying is set up.

Resources

Source Yield per break Tool and mastery Respawn
Rock face 4 Stone Pickaxe, Building 4 Instant
Marble face 4 Marble, 2 red tech points Pickaxe, Building 7 Instant
Loose rocks (two) 2 and 4 Stone, 2 red tech points Pickaxe, Building 2 and 4 Never
Iron ore rocks (three) 3 Iron Ore, 3 red tech points Pickaxe, Smithing 3 Never; 15 ore total
Barberry bush 2–4 Berries Hands, Farming 1 Roughly 20 minutes

The rock face is what frees you from the early Stone cap: all the loose rocks around your house add up to 79 Stone and never return (Mason). On the other hand it pays no tech points and doesn’t count for Rock Breaker, which only tracks loose rocks. The marble face, by contrast, counts toward Marble Breaker and pays 2 red tech points every time.

Building 4 is beyond the rusty axe and pickaxe combined (2), and Building 7 is beyond the bronze pair (4); Mastery lists other ways up.

The sealed cave

At the back, a sign beside the blocked cave warns “Explosive traps inside. Do not enter. Hans”. Until you’ve met Hans at the Bandit Camp (Forest Pass), reading the sign is all you can do. After that, the rubble can be blasted by hand with 1 Dynamite at Building mastery 8. The bandits hand you a stick later in the same storyline (Can’t See The Forest for the Iron), or you can craft one at the Formulation Bench.

Blasting it opens this side of the Old Mine along with the mine’s previously blocked exit. If you’ve also cleared the rubble in the passage between the Factory under your house and the mine, six zombie-gathering technologies appear on the tree, still to be bought.

Zombie quarries

Structure Technology Materials
Zombie Stone Quarry Zombie Stone Mining (70 red, 10 blue) 2 Pieces of stone, 4 Wooden Planks
Zombie Marble Quarry Zombie Marble Mining (120 red, 30 blue) 2 Pieces of stone, 4 Wooden Planks
Porter Station Zombie Stone Mining 2 Pieces of stone, 4 Bricks

Each quarry sets up two spots for pickaxe-carrying zombies, which bring up 1 Stone or 1 Marble per shift and deposit it directly into a Quarry chest, so build one here. The Porter Station hauls both to the Factory. Both technologies stay hidden until the cave and the mine passage are open.

Notes

  • When it first becomes reachable is unclear. The Quarry adjoins your yard’s south side, but the story only sends you here after the forest guards relent, and the files don’t reveal whether the path from the yard is open sooner.
  • Quarry zombies need Building 2 for stone and 4 for marble, or they stand idle without a word. Fresh zombies have no talents, so that means a Bronze Pickaxe or better for stone and an Iron one for marble, unless the zombie has learned Building upgrades. Beyond Bronze, Iron or Steel speeds stone up several times; for marble, Iron is marginally faster than Steel (calculated from the game files, not timed in play).
  • The Quarry teleport stone is at the southern edge where the forest begins, and at 6 Faith it’s the second most expensive milestone.
