Riverside
A short walk south-west of your house’s yard, just west of the Quarry, the river bank called Riverside is your source of Clay and Sand. There’s one clay pit and two sand pits, all dug with a shovel, and each refills the instant you empty it. Since no trader sells Sand, every bit of Glass and Tin you ever make begins here.
What you can gather
| Resource | Yield | Tool and mastery | Respawn |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clay pit | 4 Clay per dig | Shovel, Building 2 | Instant |
| Sand pits (two) | 4 Sand per dig | Shovel, Building 3 | Instant |
| Rocks (two) | 1 and 2 Stone, 2 red tech points | Pickaxe, Building 1 and 2 | Never |
| Rhododendron bush | 2–4 Rhododendrons, occasionally a Firefly | Hands, Farming 1 | Roughly 20 minutes |
Nearby, just beyond the bank, you’ll also find three barberry bushes (Berries), two clumps of Brown mushrooms, and a little further south a wild beehive for Honey.
Uses
| Material | Becomes |
|---|---|
| Clay | 3 Clay Plates from 2 at the Potter’s Wheel (the twins need six for Two Peas in a Pod); 6 Bricks from 4 in the Kiln, which costs 5 Clay to build |
| Sand | 3 Glass from 3 in the furnace after the Glass technology; 2–3 Tin, bronze’s other ingredient, from 3 in the Sluice Box; 2 per batch of Polished Stone |
Zombie diggers
Riverside’s build desk has a Clay Digger Stand, a Sand Digger Stand and a Porter Station, each costing 2 Wooden Planks and 4 Iron Nails. Put a shovel-carrying zombie at a stand and it digs 1 Clay or 1 Sand per shift, depositing it directly into a chest at Riverside, so you’ll want one built there. The porter hauls both to the Factory.
These three unlock with Zombie Digging (50 red, 10 blue), which is among the technologies hidden until both the Quarry cave and the mine passage beneath your house have been opened.
Notes
- Clay and sand are Building jobs. The shovel’s bonus counts toward Farming, so it doesn’t help here; axe, pickaxe and Building talents do. The rusty axe and pickaxe bring Building to 2, enough for clay but one short for sand.
- Digger zombies need just a shovel. Their stand requires mastery 1, which any shovel supplies, even to a brand-new zombie.
- Two broken ladders sit between Riverside and the Quarry. Fixing each takes 4 Wooden Planks, 1 Bronze Detail and 4 Bronze Nails, plus a hammer and Building 2. The game files don’t confirm where they go.
