What the Demo Left Out
Most of the full game’s data was already in the demo, which is why it showed you so much you couldn’t touch: “?” blocks on the technology tree, furniture you couldn’t place, organs greyed out at the autopsy table. Release day, 22 September 2026, switched almost all of that on. If you played the demo, this page tells you what was blocked then and what it turned into.
Does a demo save carry over?
Yes, and there’s no need to start fresh. When the full game loads a demo save, it fixes it up on the spot. Any technologies the demo recorded but couldn’t apply are granted at that moment, and the demo versions of the ending quests are replaced with the real ones.
The technology tree
- All 236 technologies are for sale, against 51 in the demo, where the others showed up as locked “?” blocks. The “?” blocks you still see belong to 37 technologies that are hidden on purpose and appear once a condition is met.
- You can see what you’re buying. Locked technologies in the demo had empty unlock lists, so the tree had nothing to show. Today 127 of them list everything they give.
- Technologies the game gives you now apply. A Cooking technology is granted for eating raw flesh, for harvesting certain crops and for repairing the kitchen table, and in the release it both takes effect and tells you so.
Bodies and graves
| What the demo blocked | What the release gives you |
|---|---|
| Heart, brain and guts at the autopsy table | Autopsy, Advanced (20 blue) unlocks the heart and guts; Autopsy, Master (10 red, 30 green, 10 blue) unlocks the brain. |
| Better corpses | Corpses come in five tiers, not one, and each tier has its own certificate. |
| Stone and marble gravestones | You can build all thirteen grave decorations. With wood alone a grave topped out at 3. |
| Embalming Table, Autopsy Table II, Corpse Pallet II, Crematorium II | All four come from three technologies: Embalming I (50 red, 10 blue), Autopsy, Master, and Body Places II (50 red, 50 green). |
| The broken morgue door | Fixed with one Iron Detail and 3 Oiled Planks. That detail sits behind Iron Works (75 red), so bodies will be left outside for some time. |
| The Butcher’s Kit promised by Skin and Bones | Can be made once Delicate Work gives you the Jewelry Table. |
The church and sermons
Writing sermons works now. The Writing Desk can be built from a Polished Bronze, which you unlock with Bronze Polishing (30 red), and Writing Supplies (10 red, 5 blue) covers paper and ink. Having paper in quantity also means Agatha’s quest Nun of Your Business can finally be completed; the demo only ever gave you one sheet.
Not every sermon made the cut, though:
| Sermons | Status |
|---|---|
| Faith, Money, Combo, Excellence, Combat, Harvest, Repose, Storms, Hypnosis | Writable; each is unlocked by a technology |
| The three from the story, Basic Prayer among them | A workstation can write them, but no technology unlocks them, so there are no 2-star or 3-star versions |
| Prayer for Protection, Imagination, Insanity, Prosperity, Purity, Consumption, Demand, Speed, Obedience, Repentance, Music | Have entries and text, but no workstation has the recipe; they can’t be made |
The church itself grows beyond tier one. From Church Lighting I on, technologies exist for better benches, the confession booth and the shrine, candles, incense, the choir and the organ. Congregation size opens up too. The number of parishioners depends on happiness, and happiness depends on town quality, which is stuck at 10 until you reach the port and the story raises it by another 10.
The town and its traders
The town is open for business. The story hands you Market Stalls I after the port. Four more technologies, Stalls II and III and Artisans I and II, cost 130/30, 150/50, 75/25 and 100/75, and together they bring in the pharmacy, vegetable stand, tailor, furniture maker, bakery, fishmonger, alchemist, jeweler, builder, smithy, tavern and brewery. The one exception is the potter’s workshop, which no technology unlocks.
The traders you already know keep going too, along with their orders, their pallets and the blackboard over the bridge. After his supply-run quest, Jack goes up a level and puts up three orders that renew.
Reputation no longer stops at the demo’s 10 and 20, and the later tree is gated on it:
| Reputation | Unlocks |
|---|---|
| Jack 50 | Conveyors |
| Jack 70 | Steel |
| Agatha 25 | Stone gravestones |
| The astrologer 20 | The printing press |
Zombies, science and alchemy
- Zombies get real jobs. Every work site functions: the sawmill, mine, sand and clay pits, quarry, gardening and porter jobs, and the full conveyor factory starting at Conveyors (70 red, 20 blue).
- You can raise more than five. The demo left three Reanimation Liquids and three Bronze Collars in a chest with no recipe for either, so Albert’s two plus those three was the limit. Now Reanimation teaches the collar, Reanimation Liquid gives the liquid as an alchemy formula, and alchemists in town stock it.
- The PR Machine is in. Finishing the astrologer’s press ceremony lets you build it, and it brings the gluttony day on the calendar with it.
- Science is renewable. In the demo you had 31 points and that was it. Writing Supplies lets you produce paper and Science Kits yourself.
- Alchemy is mostly handed to you. Laboratory II (20 red, 40 green) mixes three ingredients, and technologies give you 25 of the 29 alchemy products outright. Just the four tier-3 battle potions are left to discover by experiment.
New places and finished quests
You can now get to the forest road, the mine, the quarry cave and the port, though the cave needs Dynamite (30 red, 30 green) first. Chasing Fairy Lights and Nun of Your Business, the two quests the demo let you start and never complete, have their missing parts, and the basement factory has a story script of its own.
Notes
- Where the demo ended: stepping onto the port bridge after the first battle. In the full game that same moment is where you hand over to the foreman, and the story continues.
- Some gaps remain. The release data still has eleven sermons and a handful of buildings nobody can reach, so those complaints from the demo still stand. The sermons are listed above and on the Sermons page.
