Brother Bishop

Beneath the old bathhouse in the north of the town, Brother Bishop heads a small order of monks who run the Royal Foundry. The furnace that used to heat the baths now turns out the best steel in the land; the monks pray to its spirit and have read every metallurgy book they could lay hands on. The Bishop knew Keeper One, “my friend”, and sees immediately that you’re someone else. He was one of the six who carried the magic portal out of the palace, and he owns the magic mirror that locates its fragments.

Getting in

The water tunnel beside the ship lock is the sole entrance. Herbert lays out the assault in three stages: shut the western floodgate, battle through the eastern one, then Break Through to the Bathhouse Basement from the sewer camp. Win that and you stumble in on the monks mid-prayer. The bathhouse waystone gets marked so returning is quick.

Buying steel

Man of Steel grows out of Jack’s search for decent steel: ask the Bishop about his furnace. After that he’ll sell Steel Ingots in lots of 1, 10, 50 or 100 for 1 silver apiece. There’s no trade window; you choose a quantity in dialogue and pay immediately.

The mirror and the portal

Once you’ve raised the portal with Gunter, you can bring it up with the Bishop as well (Magic Mirror). His account: the Keeper’s wife wanted to be a queen and took the portal with her into the palace. When everyone began misusing it, six of them fired it up one final time and spirited it away. The Bishop split it into seven pieces and gave them to different people. He also took a magic mirror from her, and it reveals where the next fragment is.

In return he wants a single favour: 3 Zombie Power, compact labour for the brothers. Your factory’s Bioreactor makes it at 5 wheat per unit. He hands over the Sloth fragment and lends you the mirror, whose first answer places the second fragment “in the home of your friend… the poet, Vagner”, meaning Gunter.

The Lord’s Vintage

A monk who has never set foot in the town asks whether they have wine there, since Brother Bishop taught them that good wine brings you nearer to God. The Lord’s Vintage wants 2 top-quality (★★★) Wine. He talks of a sword as payment, but the actual reward is 3 Town Gratitude.
