Soul
Soul is the fairy who rouses you in the Inquisition dungeon at the very beginning and declares that saving the world is your destiny. She serves the swamp’s Goddess of Nature. She has no shop, no reputation and no fixed home; you see her only in cutscenes, and there’s no one to talk to between them. Her one request is that you summon her, and the recipe has to be assembled from what Jully, Albert and Gunter tell you.
In the dungeon
You come to in chains after Soul bites you awake. She informs you that you spent eight years ruining this world and extracts a promise that you’ll save it. She snaps the first chain, but for the second there’s “not enough faith left in the world”. “Summon me as soon as you can,” she says, and disappears. Larry, in the sarcophagus beside you, has seen it all, and you break the second chain on your own.
Summoning her
No one in town knows how to call a fairy, and piecing it together fills most of the opening:
| Who | What they give you |
|---|---|
| Jully, Head of the Village | He understands “matters of nature” but won’t share until you’ve helped the village (village reputation 10). Then: you need teeth (a dead man’s are fine) and Dream Dust, which only the Plague Doctor can make. Jully is Januarius in a mask; see Januarius. |
| Albert, the Plague Doctor, under your house | How to make Dream Dust, plus the last ingredient: a Comet’s Tail, sold by the port’s astrologer. |
| Gunter, the astrologer | The Comet’s Tail itself. The port only opens after the first battle, so the opening’s summoning quest stalls here. |
With everything in hand, craft the summoning at the Kitchen Table (Chasing Fairy Lights) from 1 Dream Dust, 1 Comet’s Tail and 1 Tooth. It requires Farming mastery 3 and can be crafted just once. The achievement A Little Magic unlocks.
Her story
Soul arrives with a sneeze, asks what kept you (“Doing side quests?”) and gives Larry a suspicious look. She then explains the world’s collapse: the Ancient God split your soul in two. While one half of you lay in the dungeon under torture, the other half, the one she calls the Evil Keeper, was busy wrecking whatever remained. He sold burgers made from corpses, made the first zombie, exploited the magic portal, and finally destroyed it, “the very core of the world”. Your task is to beat your evil half, rebuild the portal, and seek guidance at the Goddess of Nature’s temple in the swamp.
Admit that zombies are working around your place and she suspects the donkey knows how to raise them. Strong ones, she adds, need the shiny crystals that grow by the Goddess’s temple to shut out the Ancient God’s magic; those are the swamp’s Blue Crystals.
She hands you the Fairy’s Swamp Map and promises to wait in the swamp. The summoning sets two more things going:
- The swamp crossing. The forest bandits demand the map plus a Royal Pardon to let you over their bridge (Go Wild in the Wild Lands); see The Swamp.
- The donkey’s strike. If he’s already raised the matter of the Nun with you, he stops delivering corpses; see the donkey’s page.
Meeting the Goddess
Across the bridge, keep walking into the swamp until Soul meets you (Heart of the Swamp). Her mistress weakens by the day, she says, and she wants to know whether you’ve brought “that traitor” Larry, who has betrayed them twice; you haven’t, he’s at home. She guides you to the statue at the Heart of the Swamp, where the Goddess awakens and sets you on the trail of her brother, the Old God, and the portal. Her words are recorded on the swamp’s page.
Jully’s ritual
Once the election is over you escort Jully to the swamp for his ritual (Goddess in the Swamp). Soul thinks little of him (“Worshipers sure aren’t what they used to be…”), yet the ritual succeeds. Afterwards she pulls him aside over “a rather delicate matter”: she still owes him a few coins for his teeth. Strengthened by his Faith, the Goddess tells you where her brother is hiding.
At the portal
As the final fragment clicks into the portal, Soul turns up one last time: “You fixed it! You did it! The world is saved!” She threatens to track down and bite anyone who breaks it again, and says her farewells before the wishes are made. See the ending.
Quests
Notes
- Reach Farming 3 before summoning. Having the three ingredients isn’t enough; the Kitchen Table won’t craft it below Farming mastery 3.
- Summon her as early as you can. The swamp, the Goddess, the election and the donkey’s strike are all gated on it, and nothing else triggers them.
- You get one summoning. It’s a one-time craft, so there’s only ever one Fairy’s Swamp Map; hold on to it until the bandits claim it.
