North of the River

With the south of town cleared, Herbert is content to treat the river as the frontier. The zombies still hold everything to its north. From the village election onward, other characters give you reasons to cross, and each district opens through one of Herbert’s battles. Treat this page as the map; the characters in each place have pages of their own.

District Reason to go Unlocked by
The ship lock Draining it, for Jack’s water tunnel or Linda’s refugees Closing the Western Floodgate
Sluice Area, the drained lock floor Farmland for the refugees; the Envy fragment Both parts of Operation POTATO
Royal Foundry, beneath the old bathhouse Brother Bishop, with steel, the magic mirror and the Sloth fragment Both parts of Closing the Eastern Floodgate, then Break Through to the Bathhouse Basement
Stilt Houses, in the Flooded Quarter Harold and his Special Wood for the organ Battle at the Lake
The sewers The arena, the cheese cellar and the Old God Davy’s sewer brawls, and the town’s own sewer entrance at the west gate
The Royal Palace The final portal fragment and Keeper One The Final Battle

The three districts with waystones (Sluice Area, Flooded Quarter, bathhouse) have them marked as soon as their battle is won.

The Sluice Area

Drained, the lock floor proves to be rich soil that yielded a fine crop the last time it was dry, and Linda’s green-clad refugees want it. After Operation POTATO, tell them it’s theirs (Green Men From Far Lands) for 2 Town Gratitude. They turn up their noses at the town’s “poor quality” tools and ask for 3 Steel Shovels instead, which earns 2 more Town Gratitude and, since your friend is sick, an advance of 3 Po-ta-toes for Albert’s cough (Linda explains). Their field expands as you come and go.

Buried somewhere in the debris is the portal’s Envy fragment, findable once Lust is installed in the portal (Green Fragment).

The sewers

Sewers run beneath the entire town. Early on, Davy the Dagger sends you down for two brawls, and afterwards into the Sewrena, a zombie arena paying in looters’ keys. Later the Goddess’s hint brings you to a blank wall where Mauritzio’s cheese cellar once had a door; the Red Eye makes a door appear, and the Old God waits behind it. The town’s own sewer entrance by the west gate opens when you look for Davy there, provided you’ve already fought the first sewer brawl.

The Royal Palace

At the heart of the infected district stands the palace, holding the final portal fragment along with Keeper One, his wife and a second talking skull. Davy knows the route: enter through the sewers, hold off the zombies in the square by the palace, and locate the hidden door in the wall. The Final Battle requires 144 defence power, can be retried after a loss, and rewards 3 looters’ keys, 4 Zombie goo and 3 Town Gratitude. For what happens inside, see the Old God and Larry.

Notes

  • The refugees won’t actually sell more potatoes. They say you can buy more whenever you want, but nothing in the game sells them; the 3 you’re given are the only ones.
  • The order is flexible. Jack’s tunnel and Linda’s refugees both require the western floodgate first. After that, the foundry and the potato field can go in either order, and the lake battle depends on Agatha alone.
