Trademaster

The Trademaster oversees the town warehouse and all trade through the port. You first meet him when Jack tries the warehouse door: the building is Town property, he says, and it’s empty anyway, since fresh supplies only arrive by ship. Help him make the bay safe for large vessels and he’ll trade with you at the Main Pier, selling cargo off the ships, including one item nobody else stocks. He’s also the man sitting on a portal fragment until you can afford it.

Crystal Clear

After you’ve seen the bare warehouse, he’s waiting for you at the port. Only small boats call now, to ferry refugees out, because the bay is littered with wrecks from the ships of the dead that were once sent to sea from there. He plans floating lights over the worst spots and just lacks the lenses.

Crystal Clear wants 3 Lenses, which a furnace fitted with Bellows makes from sand and fuel. Deliver them and trading unlocks; after your next sleep the lighthouse beam shines across the bay.

His goods

The table below shows his stock. Of note:

• Cacao: he’s the only seller, and Linda’s Chocolate needs it.
• Quest items: Simple Incense for Linda’s concert, Lace, and Lacquer and Paint if you’d rather buy them than brew them.
• Other stock: gold nuggets, gems, and better seeds than the village offers.

He also buys three grades of trinket, Wooden, Copper and Precious Trinkets, without ever selling them. No trader has deeper pockets: 50 silver to start and 5 silver of income a day. His store never upgrades to a higher tier.

High Price

Long ago Gunter sold a portal fragment to a merchant, with the Trademaster taking a cut. The merchant has hawked it ever since, bringing it back week after week and finding no taker even at half price. In High Price you arrange to buy it: turn up on Lust day, when the ship docks, with 1 gold, half the original price plus the Trademaster’s commission. In exchange you receive the Lust fragment.
