The Village and the Crossroads

Head east from your house and the road meets the Crossroads, Herbert’s post. From this junction the town is to the north, the Barracks and battlefield lie east, and the village is south. The village houses the survivors of the town’s fall: Januarius runs the tavern, Herm keeps a store, and the twins live across the bridge.

At the Crossroads

  • Herbert waits here and hands out the opening’s main quests.
  • The Well teleport stone activates for 1 Faith (Milestones).
  • The Barracks door, just to the east, stays locked until Fighting Spirit Required.
  • Agatha, the Nun, takes up residence in the Crossroads house once her first quest is done.

Getting past the gate

Guards block the village entrance (“Not until the Head of the Village says otherwise”) until you’ve shown Herbert a burial certificate for Certificate, Please. From then on, the village stays open.

Around the village

Location What’s there
Village Tavern Januarius: buys burial certificates, sells beer, and will call Jully, the Head of the Village, if you ask
Herm’s Store, east of the square Herm, selling seeds and Bronze Scrap
The square The Village teleport stone (2 Faith), and the Royal Services mailbox, which has nothing on offer yet
Twins’ Land, across the southern bridge Heffry and Jeffry; Jack builds his boat on their beach
Hangman’s House, further south Where Jeffry turns up during Two Peas in a Pod

In Two Peas in a Pod the twins ask for 6 Clay Plates. A Potter’s Wheel turns clay into plates, and clay is dug at Riverside, just south-west of your house. The reward is your first fishing rod and 5 village reputation.

After dark, two guards warm themselves at a fire near the Hangman’s House. In Yummies they want a Berry Pie and 2 Beer, and they repay you with a soldier’s recipe.

Closed for now

  • The forest. Guards hold the road west of the village until a quest lifts the block, and that quest begins once you’ve been inside the port warehouse.
  • The port. The port bridge, far to the east beyond the battlefield, stays up until the first battle is won; stepping onto it afterwards is what opens the town.

There at the start

What the scene files place here before you arrive: named objects, and what is inside each container.

  • Royal Services

Notes

  • One reputation for the whole village. Januarius, Herm and the twins all share village reputation (Reputation).
  • Pride day resets both traders’ weekly happiness limits (Time and the Week).
